Abstract:

The authors propose the application of expert systems to the post-test assessment of specific structural systems. In the study reported, an existing expert system shell was employed and the authors created the logical flow patterns which simulated the expert. The expert system serves two functions: 1) to analyze the failure mode, and 2) to assess its damage and advise on further loading capabilities. Structural response under the effects of blast and shock loading conditions is of concern to hardened facilities designers who usually employ advanced numerical techniques, such as finite element codes, for the assessment of protective systems. A systematic approach developed for post-event behavior assessment is discussed. The response of reinforced concrete structures under datamation effects was treated in the literature. A brief summary will be presented as a starting point for developing the expert system.
