Abstract:

A microcomputer-based expert system used to determine the effects of vehicles and overloaded vehicles on simple span bridges with reinforced concrete deck and prestressed concrete I-beams is presented. The system provides an interface to a database and two finite element programs. The reasons which led to the development of the system and the second generation of the system, which is under development, are discussed.
