Abstract:

This paper identifies common risk management techniques and processes. A brief review of tort law is presented along with the specific characteristics of a highway related negligence suit. The fundamental methods of risk control (prevention and reduction) and risk finance (transfer and self insurance) are discussed relative to general agency liability. Several risk control measures are offered as essential elements of a successful highway risk management program.
