Abstract:

The continuing implementation and testing of finite element software on the Butterfly Parallel Processor is discussed. The Butterfly computer is a general purpose, shared memory machine composed of processors, memory, and an interconnecting switch. A programming methodology is presented which allows us to take advantage of the Butterfly architecture in developing finite element algorithms. Parallelization of the finite element method is discussed relative to the Butterfly hardware and software because performance depends as much on understanding the Butterfly as it does on identifying concurrency in the finite element method.
