Abstract:

A program has been created in an attempt to utilize the benefits of the microcomputer in assisting the learning process without invoking the attendance 'black-box' deficiencies often objected to in most automated instructional procedures. The program, POCI (Problem Oriented Courseware Interface) which may most aptly be described as a shell, is applicable to any course wherein the answers can be computer generated. Its origin stemmed from a need in an elementary steel design course but it is seen to be adaptable to many other courses.
