Abstract:

Procedures for sensitivity analysis and optimization of nonlinear structural systems with the computer program ADINA are described. Formulation of the structural optimization problem and design sensitivity analysis (DSA) with nonlinear response are described. A database and a modern database management system are used to couple ADINA with DSA and optimization modules. A truss structure is optimized for geometric as well as material nonlinearities and the results are discussed. More complex structures can be optimized with the developed procedures to fully exploit capabilities of ADINA.
