Abstract:

An interactive computer graphics approach for earthquake resistant design of two and three-dimensional steel frames is presented. Analysis and design are possible from code-related equivalent static load procedures, through approximate linear and nonlinear analysis methods, to advanced full nonlinear analysis. Capabilities employed for graphical display and two-way communication between the user and the computer for data preparation, control of the analysis/design process, and response evaluation are described. The experience gained from the use of such an approach are also discussed.
