New Runners for Aswan High Dam Power Station

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '85

Abstract:

Replacing turbine runners at Egypt's Aswan High Dam Power Station is a major project because of the size, quantity and importance of these turbines to the Egyptian economy. The runners are being replaced because of a history of cracking of the original runner buckets which proved to be virtually irreparable. Allis-Chalmers, the contractor supplying the runners, is also the construction manager for the Egyptian workforce installing the new runners. On site work to replace the existing turbine runners has been in progress since February 1985 at Egypt's High Dam Power Station. This paper presents a progress report on the replacement project.
