Abstract:

The main issue in the first stage of a hydroelectric project is to assess the influence of hydrologic parameters on design and optimum sizing of the installation and on future energy production. A computerized method of assessment is described below and illustrated by two case studies, in which the project design phases are successively described: development of power at an existing dam where irrigation and flood control requirements impose particular constraints on turbine operation; optimum sizing of a dam reservoir with a view to maximize energy production.
