Abstract:

An interactive general purpose hydraulic transient computer simulation procedure is presented which is capable of performing transient analysis of variable geometry turbine installations. The program is suitable for modeling load rejection and loading, wicket gate movement, and other events resulting from the operation of related hydraulic equipment such as valving and surge tanks. Several common hydropower transient events are examined with the analysis procedure. Data input requirements and characteristic data reduction are presented along with graphical output and numerical results from the simulations.
