A New Generation of Standard Francis Spiral Turbines

by Georg Eissfeldt, J. M. Voith GmbH, Heidenheim, West Germany,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '85

Abstract:

A new generation of standardized Francis spiral case turbines has been developed by Voith. The high performance has been achieved through employment of the most recent hydraulic designs for large, custom-built turbines, a relatively small increment in turbine sizes, and a sufficient number of specific speeds. The turbines are individually designed on the company's recently established CAD system in which the turbine component designs are currently stored. This flexible design method allows an optimum adaptation of the turbine to the site conditions. Design examples and application range are given in the paper.
