Abstract:

Finite element calculations of the flow through distributor and runner of hydraulic turbomachines are presented. The method is quasi-3D and inviscid, but the deviations from a potential flow connected with typical swirl distributions in turbomachines are taken into account. Examples of meridional and blade-to-blade calculations in a bulb turbine and a Francis turbine, including comparisons with experiments, show the versatility of the program and its usefulness for the practical runner design.
