Abstract:
The San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) was organized in 1944 to provide imported water to member agencies in San Diego County. The 24 member agencies supply 90 percent of the water consumed by a population of 2. 1 million. The Authority has now embarked on a decade-long program for development of in-system hydropower potential, completing in 1985 its first two facilities to utilize pressure heretofore dissipated through central valves. This paper discusses the project design and bidding, construction, operations history, and other aspects of the subject.
