Abstract:

The Ruedi Dam & Reservoir is owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, U. S. Department of the Interior and is part of the Fryingpan-Arkansas transmountain diversion development. The attractive economic feasibility assured by favorable head and flow conditions at this site, together with the U. S. Government's willingness to support development of its hydro resources, led the City of Aspen and Pitkin County to seek and obtain a Federal license to build this power station in a step towards energy self-sufficiency. This article highlights some of the contractor's engineering efforts required to plan this modern hydro project.
