Abstract:

This paper presents the development and applications of an interactive, microcomputer-based program, FREWAY, for the design and performance evaluation of a basic freeway section with consideration of partial roadway closure due to construction and maintenance operations. The program carries out, at the user's option, a dual level analysis of section capacity: macroscopic and microscopic, each requiring different levels of input data details. The program features extended editing and error checking capabilities, a color graphics output of queue build-up and dissipation, as well as a host of system performance measures.
