Abstract:

The Bus Garage Space Requirements Model (BBARN) is a computer-based model developed by the author to generate a detailed space program for an office/bus maintenance facility. BBARN provides an itemized breakdown for 60 elements in the general offices, operations, repair, vehicle storage, and outside areas. It can handle any mix of articulated buses, paratransit vans, and standard 30-, 35-, and 40-foot buses for any total fleet size in the range of 5 to 350 buses. Since it takes a short time to learn to run the program (about 30 minutes), 10 to 12 minutes per run, and costs 295, it compares favorably with the time and cost required to prepare a space program in equivalent detail by hand.
