Abstract:

The availability of low cost microcomputers provides the construction engineer an opportunity to exploit the use of computer technology. This paper discusses the answers to six questions associated with the use of microcomputers in construction management. The answers provide a description of microcomputer technology; construction management needs; microcomputer capabilities; transportation agency activities; available publications and assistance; and the pitfalls associated with selecting and implementing microcomputers. It also provides a description of the 2 1/2-day workshop being developed by the Federal Highway Administration for presentation to State highway construction project engineers.
