Part of: Microcomputer Applications Within the Urban Transportation Environment

Abstract:

In 1984, the Genesee Transportation Council, the MPO for the Rochester New York area, undertook a study with the City of Rochester Bureau Of Planning and Zoning to investigate how microcomputers might assist with analyzing the transportation impacts of new development within the city. Three scales of analysis were reviewed: site plan review, neighborhood (sub-area) transportation study and city-wide or regional transportation study. This investigation revealed an apparent abundance of microcomputer models, capable of performing city-wide transportation studies, a type of study the city is seldom required to perform.
