Abstract:

In 1973, Centro, a medium-sized transit company, contracted with the firm Ken Roberts & Associates (KRA) to implement a RUCUS package for the Syracuse area. The package was originally installed at Carrier Corporation's mainframe but later it was installed at a commercial data center in Reston, Virginia. Like most other early RUCUS users, Centro used the package primarily to create driver runs and related reports. Unfortunately, the commercial data center environment was so expensive and the software was so oriented to batch processing, Centro staff never became independent of KRA even after ten years of using the package.
