Abstract:

Microcomputer applications have emerged in all areas of traffic data collection, reduction and utilization. They have done much to improve the productivity and credibility of the data collection process. A variety of hardware and software is now available for this purpose. This paper briefly describes the types of data collection hardware as well as the applications. The hardware element includes both special purpose instrumentation and general purpose microcomputers. The data reduction process will normally produce data summaries, either in hard copy or machine readable form.
