Abstract:

The Cirata Hydro-Electric Project on the Citarum River in Western Java, Indonesia is at present under construction for Perusahaan Umum Listrik Negara (PLN). The project which is being engineered by Newjec of Japan includes a concrete face rockfill dam 125 m high with provision for raising to an ultimate height of 140 m. The background information leading to the adoption of the concrete face rockfill dam is given together with a general description of the project layout and dimensions of the main features. The significant design aspects of the concrete face rockfill dam are described, including the geological conditions of the foundations and nature of the rockfill material.
