Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Innovative Powerhouse Designs

Abstract:

The existing powerhouse at Libby Dam, located near Libby, Montana has four generating units for a total of 420 MW. Provisions have been made which will allow doubling the plant rating with four additional units. The increased capacity, however, will require the construction of a reregulating dam. A powerhouse is also proposed at the new dam which has features considered unique for the Corps of Engineers. Site conditions along with other design parameters have made a powerhouse located below the spillway with bulb-type units as being the most economical.
