Small Strain Measurements Using Triaxial Apparatus

by Richard S. Ladd,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Advances in the Art of Testing Soils Under Cyclic Conditions

Abstract:

This paper presents a detailed testing methodology which can be used to determine the cyclic properties of soils at very small strains using triaxial apparatus. A discussion of specific apparatus requirements is presented along with methods for apparatus calibration and test specimen preparation. Results of tests conducted using Monterey 0 soil are presented and compared to test results obtained using resonant column apparatus.
