Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Avoiding Contract Disputes

Abstract:

Utilizing management techniques to avoid disputes is an important function which allows resources to be focused on the project objectives. Relationships are enhanced, cost are reduced, schedule is ensured, and quality is maintained. Some disputes on projects occur because the objectives and roles were not clearly defined and/or communication was not maintained. Techniques which Bechtel successfully employs on many of our projects include: reach agreement on objectives, define roles, maintain communication. Disputes divert resources and increase costs. Utilizing techniques to reach agreement on objectives, define roles, and maintain communication reduces areas of potential disputes.
