Abstract:

This paper describes the planning, layout and design of a large scale precast plant and innovations in production technology for the fabrication and delivery of 1040 tangent and curved, trapezoidal, precast/prestressed concrete guideway beams for the Vancouver Advanced Light Rapid Transit (ALRT) Project. The guideway employs a structural design concept in which fullspan beams are cast with the cross section continuously following the vertical and horizontal curvature and variable super-elevation of the track profile. For the first time in North America, the precast plant utilizes two stationary concrete pumps and a slick-line distribution system with three fully automated travelling concrete boom placers. The design of the complex curved forms is described.
