Abstract:

The City of Pittsburgh is developing a unique and innovative application of horizontal elevator technology for use as downtown people-movers. The paper reviews the horizontal elevator concept, outlines the private and public benefits, and details the available public incentives and private interests. For the reasons in the paper, the City believes that the prospects are good for one or more privately-funded and operated downtown peoplemovers in the near future.
