Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to present a 'status report' of actual and proposed applications of people movers at airports. It presents background and historical information about existing automated airport people mover systems; the locations of such systems are identified, their configurations analyzed and grouped, and summary statistical information is provided about their performance. Information is presented about current projects involving planning and/or implementation of automated people movers at airports. The paper addresses possible future automated people mover projects at airports, and identifies airport sites where consideration has been given to future implementation of such systems. It also provides concluding statements about the historical success of APM's at airports, and prospects for future applications.
