Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Automated People Movers: Engineering and Management in Major Activity Centers

Abstract:

This paper presents the Miami Downtown People Mover Story, now officially called METROMOVER. METROMOVER is a fixed, elevated, fully automated people mover, which was developed as a feeder-distributor for the Dade County METRORAIL rapid transit system, to distribute passengers from the downtown METRORAIL transit station, Government Center, to the downtown business district. The system is estimated to carry approximately 30,000 daily riders. The paper presents the facts and events that paved the way for METROMOVER to become a reality in downtown Miami, with an opening date scheduled for early 1986.
