Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Automated People Movers: Engineering and Management in Major Activity Centers

Abstract:

The basic principles of operation of a Double Reversible Aerial Tramway are introduced. A brief note is given explaining a safety circuit or survey current used on the haul rope, since this must co-exist with any communication design which may use the haul rope for communication channels. The paper catalogs three types of communication techniques found in common use today. A novel communication and safety design the author developed for the Vail Lionshead Gondola is described briefly for background. It is then shown how its limitations led the author to develop the current scheme which is the basis for this paper. The implementation of this device is described.
