Abstract:

This paper reviews the present market for automated-type transit systems, outlines the attributes required to satisfy and expand this market, and identifies deficiencies in existing Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) equipment. It concludes that reduced capital and operating costs are more important than improvements in the level of service and suggests approaches to reducing system costs.
