Abstract:

The first United States application of the detachable, monocable, gondola ropeway system as an urban transportation system is presented. The system is the Mississippi Aerial River Transit System (M. A. R. T. ) that crosses the Mississippi at New Orleans. Construction and operational aspects are discussed as are system costs.
