Embankment Overtopping Tests to Evaluate Damage

by Yung Hai Chen, Simons, Li & Associates Inc, Fort Collins, CO, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulics and Hydrology in the Small Computer Age

Abstract:

The paper reports on studies of embankments 6 ft high, 10 to 22 ft in crest width, and 3 ft in length, with slope varying from 2:1 to 4:1. Embankment surfaces include pavement, grass, mattresses, Geoweb, soil cement, Enkamat, and others. Various flood overtopping conditions are included. A computer model was developed to determine hydraulics of overtopping flow and associated erosion damage. This model is being verified using field data and laboratory test results.
