Abstract:

A computer model for designing and simulation of evaporation ponds is developed. It is based on the principle of mass conservation for water, for the total dissolved solids (TDS), and for the precipitated solids. The time-dependent water depth, TDS concentration, density, and amount of precipitated solids are computed over the period of simulation. Reasonable agreement with idealized analytical solutions and simplified hand calculations has been obtained. Sample results demonstrated the usefulness of the model in controlling liquid wastes.
