Abstract:

D. F. Lawler et al. developed a model for flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration and predicted the effects of particle size distribution and concentration of the influent in water treatment plants. Subsequently, Lawler and co-workers obtained data to test the flocculation and sedimentation models. In this paper, the formulation of the model is reviewed, and examples of the experimental results are presented and used to highlight one area of disagreement between the model and experiments.
