Abstract:

The Air Force's Aeropropulsion System Test Facility (ASTF) is the most expensive project the Air Force has ever built. Its massive heaters, coolers and compressors will treat air, then force it over aircraft engines in simulations of actual flights. Engine designers will be able to see how the engines will behave at speeds up to Mach 3.8, altitudes of 100,000 ft, and temperatures from -100 F to 1,020 F. The project has received an OCEA award of merit from ASCE.
