Abstract:

In 1981, the ASCE Task Committee on Anaerobic Digestion conducted a survey of wastewater treatment plants throughout the country regarding the use of anaerobic digestion. The two-part survey requested both quantitative and subjective responses concerning the operation and performance of all digester system components. The initial survey elicited 168 responses, while 90 plants responses to the followup survey. In summarizing the responses, this paper provides information on common problems at these plants and notes the respondents' preferences in methods and equipment.
