Abstract:

Court rulings have recently allowed the ocean disposal of municipal wastewater sludge in certain cases. This paper describes a methodology which was developed to determine acceptable loadings of heavy metals to designated ocean disposal sites. The methodology focuses on the uptake of these metals by fish and shellfish, and subsequent consumption of these contaminated organisms by human beings. (Author abstract. )
