Abstract:

The St. Paul, MN, Metropolitan Waste Control Commission Wastewater Treatment Plant has installed and operated eight variable volume diaphragm filter presses for four years. During this time, the performance of the presses was significantly improved. The purpose of this paper is to describe the following elements which aided in press optimization: 1) Theoretical Considerations, 2) Filter Cloth Design, 3) Mechanical Modifications, and 4) Operational Considerations.
