Abstract:
The expansion behavior of the fluidized bed reactor support medium is important in its design and analysis. Steady state and dynamic behavior of fluidized bed expansion were compared with predictions from models found in the literature. Errors in bed height predictions led to errors in the estimated hydraulic residence times of less than 2 percent using biofilm thickness estimates calculated from simple volatile solids measurements.
