Abstract:

Recently developed optimization software represents significant first steps toward the application of the digital computer as a design and planning tool. This software has recently been successfully applied to two planning studies; a power generation facility, and an irrigation distribution system. The results of these studies indicate that significant cost and time savings can be realized through application of digital computer capabilites early in the planning process.
