Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Computer Applications in Water Resources

Abstract:

This paper presents a brief history and overview of the field of artificial intelligence (AI), describes the architecture of an expert system, and discusses the logic procedures used in their development. The paper also discusses programming techniques and programming languages developed for AI. Successful applications of AI and expert systems are given, including two developed for water resources. An argument is presented for the use of AI techniques in water resources applications and the parallels between the development of AI and developments in the use of computers in water resources are made.
