Abstract:

The authors describe a computer conferencing/message system called Confer II currently being utilized by the US Army which they have implemented among dredging managers in the US Army Corps of Engineers. The capability of such a computer conferencing/message system to provide ongoing discussions without requiring participants to travel or be available at specified times is presented. The authors explain how Confer II can locate critical expertise effectively, reduce the time spent communicating, and increase the productivity of an engineer/manager.
