Abstract:

This paper surveys the state-of-the-art in computer assisted real-time operation of water distribution systems. It first examines the reasons and justification for installing computer based control systems, then describes their components and operation. The main part is then devoted to the control system software: demand forecasting, network analysis and simulation, and especially algorithms for optimal control.
