Abstract:

Seismic strengthening of existing reinforced concrete (RC) frame buildings by the use of steel braces or panels was studied experimentally. A special joint between steel elements and the existing RC frame, using studs and anchor bolts with mortar, was developed. Test specimens constructed using this method showed satisfactory strength as well as hysteretic behavior under reversal of horizontal loads. Direct shear tests of the joints were also carried out to obtain basic data for the design of joints.
