Abstract:

A comparison is made between composite column capacities derived from the authors procedure utilizing the ACI (America Concrete Institute) code requirements, and previously published semi-empirical formulae. Penalties imposed by the ACI code on the flexural stiffness of tied composite columns are discussed. A brief description of some buildings utilizing mixed systems is presented.
