Abstract:

The noise characteristics of alternative transit technologies for an urban area are summarized. Among the transportation technologies considered are a busway system, light rail transit (LRT), rail rapid transit (RRT), intermediate capacity transit system (ICTS), and low-capacity transit system. Noise sources associated with operations of vehicles in each type of system are described and quantified for comparison among technologies.
