Abstract:

This paper will address the aesthetics, economic and construction-related advantages of prestressed concrete for high-rise buildings, with an emphasis on the South-East Asia region. While the application of prestressed concrete design for high-rise buildings has been widely spread, the advantages of this medium has not been utilized to its full potential. It is emphasized that closer cooperation between the architect and the structural engineer should start at the early planning stages in order to fully develop the potentials of prestressed concrete for high-rise buildings.
