Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Civil Engineering in the Arctic Offshore

Abstract:

Based upon the present projections for the offshore petroleum industry, many of our future engineering graduates will find employment related to Arctic Offshore activities. In an effort to introduce the general subject of cold regions engineering to our engineering students at Texas A&M University, a new three credit engineering course entitled Arctic Offshore Engineering was developed. The course was offered for the first time during the fall '84 semester. The motivation for developing the course, the selection of course topics, the role and participation of industry and the experiences gained from offering such a contemporary course are discussed.
