Abstract:

Analytical methods are described for predicting local behavior of deepwater concrete structures subjected to short duration loading from floating ice. Overall analytical approaches such as substructuring and characterizing material and geometric nonlinearities are discussed, and particular emphasis is placed on the modeling of properties of confined concrete. Prediction of shear failures and evaluation of load and deflection capacity of a reinforced concrete wall span acting as a catenary are discussed.
