Abstract:

The development of the layout and the history of design of the 292 foot (89 m) high Strontia Springs Dam is presented. While a brief description of the general project layout and foundation conditions is given, the main emphasis is on the arch dam and appurtenant structures. Selection of the final location from among several investigated was based on economics, foundation conditions, and relative advantages and disadvantages this location had on other features of the project. Results of the final design analysis based on the trial load method and finite element method verified that design criteria were met. Construction started in June 1979 and the reservoir was completely filled for the first time in November 1982.
